ABOUT

Acting

I’m from the Chicago area and discovered acting in my early 20s when I attended an acting class and then was cast in a community theater production of the Wizard of Oz. Playing the Scarecrow in that play inspired me to keep going. I’ve acted in approximately 35 plays. A few of my favorite roles were Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, Scrooge/Dickens in A Christmas Carol, Alvaro in The Rose Tattoo, and in the Ensemble for Spoon River Anthology. During those early days I also took classes at the Players Workshop of Second City to learn the skills of improv, as well as acting in workshop classes.

Much later I discovered the excitement of film acting and have acted in 20+ films; a mixture of Shorts and Indie Features. For me, the relationships you build from both film making and putting on a play is as important as the production itself.

Writing

Writing was something I only dabbled in, but it was accelerated when I took a screenwriting course in Chicago and we were required to write a full feature moving and bring in a new 15 pages every two weeks. Since then, I’ve written three features and three shorts. Writing reminds me of golf. It’s difficult to do, but occasionally you hit a few good shots.

Directing

I’ve directed about a dozen plays, most of them for the Pendulum Theatre Company. We staged our plays at the Athenaeum Theater in Chicago. The two standout memories was the play The Quick Change Room ( which Chicago Tribune chief critic Richard Christiansen called one of the top five theater moments of 1998 ) and our production of Abundance, a Beth Henley play that we were Jeff Nominated for.

I’ve also directed two short films that I wrote: Bob and Edgar and Fingerprints.

Producing

In the 1990s I co-founded a 501(c)(3) not for profit theater called the Pendulum Theatre Company. The company ran for seven years and I was the Artistic Director. We performed one to two plays per year at the Athenaeum Theater (Chicago) and I produced the plays. My role included fund-raising, grant writing, play selection, casting.

On the film side of things, I produced the short films Bob and Edgar and Fingerprints.
